Actually on top of the reasons mentioned I farm for the thrill, sometimes I go into an area and try to figure out a way to solo a monster in HM just for kicks. I just like to solo things.
I have been through all chapters on 14 chars and ran out of stuff to buy it's honestly not about money or anything like that. You reach a point where pvp, elite dungeons and farming is all that's left to do. I don't say that in a cynical manner I enjoy farming.

ehm the first 800 hours i played pve only, i dunno why, i just played all characters never had more than 100k, i quited GW, when eotn came out, i started playing again, bought finally all chapters. found pve really boring, hero's made it boring, started to pvp, that was fun, but i also met some good farmers. started hanging around them learned things, got my first stack of ecto's, after u get ur first. u want MORE, i guess people farm because of that:P the more the better. o and its pretty cool if people gaze u for having an expensive minipet:P

Personally I don't farm much; mostly just for Nicholas items or materials. The only farm I really do that's for money is feathers; it's not something that will get you insanely rich fast, but it's still easy and steady income. Sometimes when there's special holiday drops I'll do a bit for that. And then sometimes I'll just get bored and see if my Ritualist can clear a certain area or solo a boss without dying, just for the fun of it.

I really don't need much money. I'm not too interested in any of the goldsink titles beyond Sweet Tooth, and that I've been working at just with stuff from Nicholas gifts or the occasional event weekend. The majority of my money goes towards armor sets, and for the most part I find elite sets are really not worth the extra money they cost and the 1k sets look just as nice (or nicer). The only real exception to this is my Dervish, because there are so few armors available (and is why of the three elite armor sets I own, she has two of them)

So it's perfectly possible to get through the game without a lot of money. The most I've ever had at any one point in time was about 270k, and that was just after I'd sold my Mini Yakkington for 50e. Usually I have about 70-80k in actual money and a bit more in alcohol/sweets/party items. And no, I can't afford to buy an expensive mini-pet or Voltaic Spear or BDS, but do I even want to? Nope, more than happy without that sort of thing.

Some people farm for fun. If you are playing the game the point is fun anyways, so do what you like.

+1

Really, after GwAmM and playing though all campaigns with 8 characters, I find farming to be relaxing and extremely rewarding.

Its what I enjoy and really the only reason I still play (after 4 years).

How long will it take to find 5,000 high-end chests or get 5,000 gold items during regular gameplay? How long will it take to get the keys and/or lockpicks needed to open 5,000 chests while depending on nothing but the income from ordinary play and the occasional key/pick dropped as loot? Please share! The wiki says these titles are very expensive, requiring over four million gold for the cheapest method they list to get TH alone, so it would be nice to know the cheaper, non-farming way to get them.

Will the same technique also give me 10k party points, or the cash to buy them, at the same time? While also giving me the cash and mats to get five sets of elite armor and a full set of Destroyer weapons?

Even assuming GW2 won't be released for another two full years, is it really possible to accomplish all this with no farming whatsoever? Is the method practical for people who are unwilling to give up gainful employment and do nothing but play GW 10 hours per day?
I have Drunkard, Party Animal, and Sweet Tooth maxed on 1 character, and Sweet Tooth at 1/4 and Party Animal at 1/5 maxed on a second. I don't do very much farming at all. I do buy stuff for titles on occassion, but the money I use came from playing normally, not farming. Treasure Hunter and Wisdom are account based, so it doesn't matter what character you use. I admit these are harder and longer to acquire without 'farming' them, but not impossible. I have those at about 1/3 and 1/2 done and I don't buy keys/lockpicks hardly at all.

Not saying it isn't long and slow, but it is certainly possible, and allows you to do things that are 'fun' instead of mindless farming. If you enjoy farming, then do it. The game should be there to let you have fun. If you don't enjoy farming, then don't do it, and things you want to do can still get done, just slower for some of them.

Agreed. For example, except for the horrible helmet for males, nothing for Warriors the regular Templar Armor. [maybe I'm biased since my first character was a Prophecies Warrior and his first 1k armor was Templar when he reached Droknar's Forge; never have the helmets visible, though]

Different people have different ways of having fun - different strokes for different folks. If you read these forums often enough, you might get the impression that everyone farms, but that's only true for some.
You might also get the impression that most people want to burn trough the game as fast as possible, given all the threads about "best" or "fastest" ways to do things.

Slow down and smell the virtual roses.

Yea, i deff don't farm for fun either, i enjoy playing with my guildies a lot more. the 100k needed for some nice fancy armor is not a real prob. Once you've found your way around the game you'll realize 100k is easily made. It's when the Treasure Hunter, Wisdom Title, for me personaly: Sweets and Party Titles spark interest farming becomes a major thing.

If you're interested in Titles you'll find yourself "farming" Points on Sunspear, Lightbringer, Asura, Norn, Vanguard, Delver Title soon enough aswell.

I don't think there is all that many people who farm just to have the cash. The ones with seemingly "unlimited" amounts of money have more often than not gone after the Zaishen Title. which if bought will cost you at least 80,000 platinum.

Good luck with your GW adventures! =]
